Dear colleagues:

I was profoundly saddened to learn that Dr. Mehdi Ghalibafian had
passed
away. He was a great academic leader and a major figure in the Civil
Engineering field. He was a man of great insight and personality, and
his
death is a very sad loss for the engineering community.  His
professional
work strengthened our understanding of the many civil engineering
works,
while his ideas and commitment will live on through the generations of
students he educated in Iranian universities.

On behalf of Iranian Geotechnical Society (IGS), I would like to extend
our deepest condolences to Dr. Ghalibafian's family, friends, and
colleagues.  We, members of  IGS, are shocked and saddened by the news.

May Allah shower His blessings upon his spirit! Al Fatihah!
